Pregnancy Center Plus performs on-site ultrasounds free of charge for the purposes of verifying the location, date, and viability of the pregnancy.
What Ultrasounds Can Reveal
Location of pregnancy: The fetus should be in the uterus. A pregnancy that develops somewhere other than within the uterus is a problem. This happens usually in the fallopian tube but can be elsewhere in the pelvis. An ectopic pregnancy must be terminated, as it is dangerous to the mother.
Date of pregnancy: Most doctors count the duration of pregnancy starting from the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP). This is because it is hard to know exactly when a woman ovulates and conception occurs. It is easier to know the first day of a woman’s last menstrual period. Also called gestational age. Basically, it means how far along you are.
Viability of pregnancy: A Viable Pregnancy is one in which the baby can be born and have a reasonable chance of survival. By contrast, a nonviable pregnancy is one in which the baby has no chance of being born alive-an example is an Ectopic Pregnancy.
