With the new Ohio law in place, it is understandable to have concerns. If a heartbeat is detected during the ultrasound, you can trust us to respect your privacy. The results of your ultrasound are completely confidential, even if you are underage. We don’t report the results of your ultrasound to anyone but you.
Why Get an Ultrasound?
An ultrasound is standard procedure to confirm a few things:
- Is the pregnancy viable? About 20-25% of pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage. The likelihood of a miscarriage can be determined by an ultrasound.
- How far along are you? This will determine whether you are eligible for an abortion.
- Is the pregnancy properly located? You will want to make sure that the pregnancy is located in the uterus and not in a fallopian tube, also known as an ectopic pregnancy which can be life-threatening and will require immediate medical attention.
Why Get an Ultrasound Before Taking the Abortion Pill?
The abortion pill is also known as RU-486 (mifepristone) and is used in a regimen with another prescription medicine (misoprostol) to end an early pregnancy.
Mifepristone is not approved for ending pregnancies that are further than 10 weeks and can be dangerous. There are increased risks in taking the abortion pill later in pregnancy, so it is important to know how far along you are.
We can provide you with a free medical-grade pregnancy test and an ultrasound to verify how far along you are in the pregnancy and to confirm that it is a viable pregnancy (not an ectopic pregnancy).
And as always, your appointment is confidential and free. Make an appointment at the link above or call us at 513-321-3100 to schedule an appointment.
