Early Signs of Pregnancy

Are you really pregnant? There are early signs of expecting, but not everyone has symptoms. Often the first symptoms can also be the same symptoms that indicate your period is about to start or even that you may be getting sick. So don’t worry.

The best way to know is by taking a pregnancy test. The higher hCG levels in your urine are used to detect pregnancy, through a pregnancy test.   Pregnancy Center East provides free pregnancy testing.  You can make an appointment at the button above or call us to schedule.

Early pregnancy symptoms occur because of increased hormone levels in the bloodstream.  There can be early signs you are pregnant.

Here are the top 11 early signs of pregnancy you’ll want to know about:

  1. A Missed Period

If you are in your childbearing years, a missed period by more than a week can indicate you are pregnant.  If you have an irregular menstrual cycle, pregnancy is going to be more difficult to determine by a missed period.

  1. Nausea

Morning sickness can occur a month into your pregnancy or sooner.  Not everyone experiences nausea.  However, it can happen any part of the day, not just in the morning.

  1. Tender Breasts

As your hormones rise, your breasts and nipples can become sore.  It usually only lasts a week or two, but for some, it can continue the entire pregnancy.

  1. Fatigue

Not your everyday tiredness, fatigue is total exhaustion.  Your body is nurturing the baby’s development causing you to slow down and forcing you to get some needed rest.

  1. Frequent Urination

The amount of blood in your body increases during pregnancy, causing your kidneys to produce extra fluid that ends up in your bladder.

  1. Food Aversion

Do foods that you love now make you feel ill?  Your taste buds may have changed creating a temporary aversion to some foods. You may also be experiencing sensitivity to certain smells.

  1. Spotting

A small amount of blood called spotting can happen.  It is also known as implantation bleeding, which occurs around the time of a period, about 10-12 days after conception.

  1. Constipation

The change of hormones can make your digestive system slow down and cause some bloating and constipation.

  1. Cramping

Some women report mild uterine cramping early in pregnancy.

  1. Mood Swings

You may be experiencing highs and lows and some moodiness too.  Some women become more weepy and emotional during this time. Once again, those pregnancy hormones are the cause.

  1. Dizziness

The hormonal changes and added blood volume can lower blood pressure which causes dizziness and lightheadedness.
